An ordinary Londoner falls through the cracks into London Below, a dark fantastical city beneath the streets.
Neverwhere is the companion novelisation written by Neil Gaiman of his 1996 BBC television serial of the same name (devised with Lenny Henry). It is set in "London Below," a magical realm coexisting with the familiar "London Above." The novel form allowed Gaiman to expand and elaborate on elements of the story and restore changes made in the televised version.
First published September 1996 by BBC Books · Gaiman's debut solo novel · later reissued in an author's-preferred text.
