# College Funding Note — 529 Households

**Prepared by:** Sam (paraplanner)
**Date:** 2026-08-19
**Purpose:** desk note ahead of year-end. Pull together every household with a 529 on
the books so we can raise contribution/timing ideas at fall reviews. 529 balances are
excluded from the billable base — this note is planning color only, not billing.

Balances as of 2026-09-30 custodian close.

## Contribution / timing ideas (planning color — discuss at reviews)

- **Annual-exclusion gifting:** for the households still actively funding (Penrose,
Fairburn, Crane, Everly), a straightforward annual gift per beneficiary keeps
contributions inside the exclusion. Confirm each client's gifting appetite.
- **Five-year election ("superfunding"):** the larger balances (Harlow, Tredwell,
Wrenshall) likely reflect front-loaded funding already — check whether any are still
inside a five-year election window before recommending new large contributions.
- **Near-enrollment de-risking:** for any beneficiary within ~3 years of enrollment,
  suggest glide-pathing toward the money-market / short-duration sleeve (Northquay
Government Money Market) so tuition timing isn't exposed to a drawdown.
- **Everly (••• 1926):** small balance — likely a newer or lightly funded plan. Worth
a quick "do you want to keep funding this?" at the review.
- **Small vs. large:** the smaller plans (Everly, Crane, Fairburn) may benefit from
systematic monthly contributions; the large ones are more about withdrawal
  sequencing than new money.

*All contribution figures and timing above are planning suggestions only — no dollar
amounts are committed. Confirm each household's goals with the advisor at the review.*
